Teaching Stay Behind Children in Tea Town ( 中文& English )

·         管理留守儿童夏令营;

·         给乡村孩子介绍美国文化;

·         到熊猫基地做义工,了解如何保护熊猫;

Program Details

Teaching Left-Behind Children in Tea Town (July 1, 2017 to July 15, 2016. Quota:20)

 We will continue the program “Teaching Left-Behind Children in Tea Town” this year. Sichuan is one of the largest tea producers provinces in China; Ya’an was the earliest place to begin the production of tea in China. However, the economy in Ya’an falls.

 The Chinese government wishes to relieve the poverty in the Ya’an by encouraging the planting of tea. In this way, residents will be able to live in a more prosperous and satisfying manner. However, although the locals have produced large amounts of tea, they have not been able to earn much profit from it. Because of this, many parents have to go out of town to work and earn money for their families.

 During the summer, their children have to stay in Ya’an. They have no opportunities to travel, attend summer camps, or in short, understand the outside world. It is important that the Chinaway volunteer program provides care for these children, while also opening a window for them to learn about the world outside Ya’an.

 Letting American high school students manage the summer camp themselves, arrange daily courses and activities should be very helpful to develop American students’ management, expression, and independent skills. Going to Ya’an will also allow American high schoolers to learn about how tea is planted and produced.

Thinking about how to let more people enjoy tea because tea is an extraordinary beverage with multiple health benefits. Also, the Chinese civilization has its unique characteristics, therefore learning Chinese culture in Ya’an will be very rewarding!

 Volunteer Content:

·         Manage Left-Behind children summer camp;

·         Introduce American culture to Left-Behind children;

·         Teach children English and other classes;

·         Volunteer at China Giant Panda Conservation Centre, learn how to protect giant pandas.

So our students should prepare to share about their high school lives, including the courses, afterschool activities, and any working experiences with the Chinese middle school students.

Hope you will enjoy your summer camp too! J
