Q:网教常规问题（不能去中国的支教项目）：

A:上课时间是中国白天，一般是星期一至星期五，9am ~ 11:50am，美国就是星期天~星期四，西部时间：6pm~8:50pm; 东部时间: 9pm~11:50pm。支教通过zoom平台上进行，面对中国不同的学生，活动，我们都有相应的完全培训，参加学生必须保证有电脑与网络，会使用zoom平台

上课由小组共同进行，一般每个教课小组3~4个学生，轮流讲课，提问，演示，准备课件。我们保证给孩子提供2周的义工机会，义工时间可以到30~40小时，但前提是学生必须完成我们的培训过程。培训也给义工时间。

Q:什么样的孩子可以参加这个项目?

A:9年级以上的学生（包括大学生，与在６月份完成了９年级学习的学生),身心健康,愿意到中国做义工,提高自己,帮助中国孩子的学生都可以报名,会不会中文没有关系。如果你是8年级的学生,请你电话给我们,我们了解情况后告诉你可否报名。 

Q: What kind of students is the program looking for?

A: The program is open to students who have completed at least one year of high school (including college students) and wish to do volunteer work in China. Student’s Chinese skill is important but not the only factor for the program. If you are a 8th grade student and want to participate, please contact us; we will decide if you should apply after we learn more about your background.

Q: 能介绍一下报名流程吗?

A: 你首先可以阅读网站“Apply Chinaway Program ” page, 满足条件的学生在网上点击application，按照上面的步骤完成手续就可以。

A: You can learn about the process on the “Apply Chinaway Program ” page. Follow the instruction and you will complete registration.

Q:你们有培训吗?

在活动开始前，我们给书面文件指导孩子；根据需要与具体任务，我们可以安排电话会议培训。到了中国会统一培训学生。同时在活动中带队老师会随时安排培训。

Q: Are training provided?

A: Before the program starts, we will send out related documents to guide the students. For certain tasks or needs, we can arrange phone meeting as training. There will be a group training session after students arrive at China. At the same time, guidance teacher will arrange training when needed during the program.

Q:项目如何保证孩子的安全?

A:我们一直将安全放在项目管理的第一位。我们非常欣慰的告诉大家，过去的８年里，这个项目都没有出安全问题。做到这点首先是主办团体非常认真负责,同时项目也有一套可行的管理措施:即点到点的管理，保证孩子在一个安全的环境。项目为美国学生配备的指导人员（包括中方与美方）,比例是1:4 左右；对一些能力弱的孩子甚至是1:1的帮助。只要孩子听老师安排，安全是能保证的。当然突发事件还是有,比如有孩子跑,跳将脚扭了,去抓动物被动物伤了,自己跑出去迷路了…所以我们也要求孩子对自己的行为负责.项目会给孩子买全部保险即任何生病都不会要家长出费用.掉了贵重东西也有一定赔偿.

Q: How does the program guarantee children’s safety?

A: Children’s safety is our number one priority in our program management. We are really grateful to say there are no safety problems occurred in the last 8 years of this program. We have a team of responsible and reliable staff, and we have good management while traveling from one point to another, making sure that all students are in a safe environment. The program has guidance staff from both America and China, and the ratio of staff to students is around 1:4. We can also provide 1:1 assistance if some students need special help. Students will be safe as long as they follow teacher’s instruction. There were accidents, such as one child twisted his child when running or jumping, one child tried to touch animal but instead was injured by the animal, and some child went outside alone and got lost… So we also ask students to be responsible for their own action. We will cover insurance during the whole program, so any sickness will be treated without any fee. And if any valuables are lost during the program we will have some compensation.     

Q: 如果入选，机票是自己订还是把钱打给你们一起订呢? 孩子不敢自己走，你们有老师带队从美国出发吗？

A:我们不负责定机票,但有带队老师从美国走。带队老师的航班确定后,愿意跟队走同学可以自己定那个航班的票. 我们也可能有家长或志愿者幫助提供訂票信息以协助大家订票. 具体信息会在网上更新，给报名了的学生发邮件。如果你不敢自己走，可以与老师搭队，或与其它同学搭队。

Q: After acception, do we buy our own plane ticket, or do we pay Chinaway and Chinaway help us buy the plane ticket? If our children are afraid to fly by himself/herself, do Chinaway have a teacher leading a group of students travel from America to China?

A: We do not help buy flight tickets, but we may have teacher who can lead a group of students traveling from U.S. to China. After the leading teacher’s buy his/her flight ticket, students who want to go with the group can also buy ticket of that flight. We may also provide information or assistance for ordering the ticket, we will update more information in detail at that time. If the students are not comfortable to travel alone, he/she can go with the teacher, or find other participants to and travel together.

Q: 这个项目要求一起从美国走吗？如果自己去，你们安排接机吗？

A:这个项目鼓励志愿者自己来去，只要你在指定的时间到达机场，中方都安排接机。在指定的时间段会安排免费全天借机；在其他时间段，也许会收费接机。如果飞机晚点取消等原因错过时间,中方也会接机。 不管你是从美国去还是从中国别的地方飞去。在出发前，我们会让每个学生填他们的旅游计划，包括到达与离开航班，然后按照孩子的航班安排接送机。

Q: Do we have to travel together? If we go by our own, are there pick up service?

A: We encourage students to travel by themselves. As long as you arrive at Chengdu's airport in the stated period of time, we will arrange pick up for free. If you arrive in other time, there might be a charged fee. If student misses the pick up time due to plane delay or cancels, we will also pick up for free.  Before departure, we will ask students to fill out a travel plan form, including flights arriving/ departing from Chengdu, and we will pick up/drop off based on the information.

Q：为什么去做义工还要付那么多钱？

A：义工的定义是去做工作没有人支付你工资。Chinaway义工包含关爱社会，提高自己。Chinaway 是非营利机构，项目费用都用于志愿者项目:

• 项目费用
• 食宿
• 当地交通和访问
• 教材
• 志愿者项目的当地运营，等等

所以，无论是关爱留守儿童，还是给中国农村学校上课，安排这些项目需要非常多的成人事先来完成，这些都有花费与人工支出。没有人组织，高中生是不可能自己完成这些事的。包括在活动期间，大人与孩子的比例是2.5个学生配一个成人，所以我们说Chinaway义工项目在更多意义上是培养孩子的一个特殊课程。同时给留守儿童上课，给他们食物，书本，需要费用。学生在中国的吃，住，行，参观等都需要费用。

Q：Why there are a fee for doing volunteer work?

A: The definition of volunteer is doing work without getting pay. Chinaway volunteer program does not only care and help for society, but also improve abilities of the volunteer student through the process. Chinaway is a non-profit organization. Program fees are used to make the program run and cover the cost of the program, including:

• Hire guidance teacher,
• room and board,
• field trips,
• instructional materials,
• local operations, etc

In additions, getting to meet the left-behind children, or going to teach in the countryside, requires many people to do the job before hand. These all have monetary and labor cost. Without people arranging, high school student cannot do this by themselves. Also, the ratio of adult and students is 2.5:1 during the program, in another way, Chinaway program is also like a special class in training students. During the program,  there are also costs in gathering the left-behind children to give them classes, providing them food and books. Volunteers’ meals, shelter, transportations also have costs.

Q: 项目一般都住哪里？能介绍一些设施吗？

A: 根据多年经验，现在一般都会安排学生住旅馆。旅馆是标准配制，即有电视，电话，网络，空调，浴室。两人一间。旅馆一般没有洗衣机或洗衣服务。中方会教同学们手洗衣服。如果学生实在不愿意洗，可以多带衣服。

Q: During the program, where do the students live and what kind of facilities does it have use?

A: We usually arrange students to live in hotels, with two students living in one room. All hotel rooms include TV, telephone, Wifi, air condition, and bathroom. Hotels usually do not have washing machine or washing service, but we can teach students how to hand-wash clothes. If students really do not want to hand-wash clothes, another choice will be bringing more clothes.

Q: 家长可以参加吗？如果家长参加要付费吗？我可以申请当带队老师吗?

A: 家长当然可以跟去,也可以申请当带队老师,但中方安排的工作是让孩子做的。Chinaway Volunteer Program 一直是成本运作。如果家长要跟队，他（她）要付自己的吃，住，行，參觀等费用。同时中方不鼓励家长跟队。家长在，孩子表现拘谨，而且多去一个人他们要多操一份心。但我们接收美国的带队老师.如果你有爱心，善于管理孩子，有搞教育或管理的经历，懂中美文化，欢迎你将你的简历寄给我们。我们会培养带队老师。带队老师不用付费，同时适当补助机票及其它费用。

Q: Can parents also participate in the program? If so, is there a fee? Can parents apply to become a guidance teacher?

A: Parents are allowed to come. But the program’s tasks are for the children to complete by themselves. Chinaway Volunteer Program always run on operating cost, so if parents want to go with the team, they need to pay for all their own costs, including food, shelter, transportation, and any other expenses. We do not encourage parents to follow their children, because children’s performance is usually better without presence of the parent. But we welcome parents to send us your resume to apply to become guidance teacher. The requirement is that the guidance teacher should be caring, good at managing children, have experience in education or management or volunteer work, and understand both American and Chinese culture well. We will provide give training to the guidance teacher. Guidance teacher will not have to pay for expenses during the trip, and we can also pay for the plane ticket.

Q: Chinaway program 如何算义工小时？

A: 暑假项目一周算40小时，两周是80小时，以此类推。平时参加的项目按项目说明给义工时间。这个义工小时可以满足学校与申请大学的需要。

Q: How many volunteer hours does Chinaway Program give?

A: The program contains 40-hour volunteer work per week, so there are a total of 80 hours for the two-week program. We will only certify volunteer hours if students participate and complete the required tasks. The volunteer hours can satisfy any school requirements and be used in college application.

Q：参加了Chinaway summer program 就能得presidential volunteer service award吗?

A: 如果中方认同了孩子的服务，任何参加Chinaway program的孩子都能获得集体的presidential volunteer service award；如果孩子不仅参加夏天的活动，也参加我们平时的一些活动，他（她）可以得到个人荣耀奖。

Q: If we participate in Chinaway summer program, are we eligible to receive the presidential volunteer service award?

A: If the Chinese staff are satisfied with the children’s service, all participants of the Chinaway program can receive a group presidential volunteer service award. If the child participated not only in our summer program, but also done other volunteer work with us, he/she may be eligible to receive a personal award.

Q: 如果我孩子只能去一周，你们接受吗？能不能收费减半？

A：我们首先接受能全部参与的孩子；如果的确有名额，可以考虑接受，费用能否折半，要具体项目具体决定。

Q: If our children can only participate the program for one week, can it be accepted? If so, can we only pay half the price?

A: We may accept the students who will participate in the whole program first. If there are still spaces, we will consider your case, and the price will also depends on your specific case.

Q:孩子不会讲中文可以参加吗？

A:可以，只要孩子自己可以管理好自己，带队老师，中方接待人员都会英文。

Q: Can students who do not know any Chinese still participate?

A: Yes, as long as they can take care of themselves. Guidance teacher and Chinese staff all can speak English.

Q:高中的哥哥姐姐可以带还没有上高中的弟弟妹妹参加吗？

A:具体情况具体决定，主要看孩子的各种能力。

Q: Can children in high school also bring their younger sister/brothers who are not yet in high school to participate in the program?

A: We will decide based on your situation. It mainly depends on the ability of the children.
